Introduction
History
The SCPC (Slovak Cleaner Production Centre) was established in 1994, originally as a part of the National Industrial Association. In May 2004 it acquired the legal form of not-for-profit independent organization, civic association. The work of the SCPC was supervised by a steering committee, comprised of representatives of the Ministry of Environment, the Ministry of Economy, an industry association representative, representatives from UNIDO, UNEP, the Slovak-Norwegian Cleaner production programme, members of civil society and other major donors. By that time the country legal framework for NGOs changed (from this moment on, the legal framework forbade authority representatives to take part in organs of not-for-profit organisations). In 2002, based on recommendation of auditors, the legal form of the organisation was changed to Ltd. (SCPC, Ltd.) owned by employees. In 2008, the not-for-profit branch was re-established: PROVENTUS, in legal form of public charity.
SCPC being an independent professional organisation cooperates with national and international industries and service providing companies, consultancies, government, academia, NGO-s, and all other interested and involved parties.
It is one of the oldest members of international network of National Cleaner Production Centres (NCPCs) established by UNIDO (United Nations Industrial Development Organisation) and UNEP (United Nations Environmental Programme). Today, there are more than 40 NCPCs in the world.
Currently, the priority focus for professional consultancy on health and safety at work, fire protection and environmental protection. The target group are mainly industrial companies in Slovakia and abroad.
Mission
The mission of the SCPC is to promote, implement and support activities aimed at preventing unacceptable events, health and safety at work, fire protection, and those activities which involve the use and application of proactive preventive approaches in solving industrial pollution problems. The emphasis is on systematic and integral approach in everyday practices and operations.
Vision
SCPC is permanently to be one of leaders that promotes and supports implementation of practical and effective protection of environment and health and safety at work in Slovakia and abroad.
Motto
Preventive proactive approach is the basic principle in all areas of our work. We believe that in this way we can achieve our mission in accord with interests of our clients:
„The cheapest problem solution is to solve the problem which has never emerged.“
This is especially valid in the areas of environment, health and safety, accident prevention and customer satisfaction.
