Cleaner production and energy efficiency
Cieľom čistejšej produkcie – energetickej efektívnosti je hľadanie riešení na znižovanie výrobných nákladov a predchádzanie vzniku odpadov lepším, efektívnejším využívaním vstupných materiálov a energií. To má následne nezanedbateľný ekonomický efekt, čo zvyšuje efektívnosť, a tým aj konkurencieschopnosť firmy.
What is Cleaner Production?
Cleaner production as pollution prevention can be understood in two levels. Generally, the Cleaner Production as a strategy introduces a new systematic approach to reduction and elimination of environmental pollution. It appeared in developed countries of the world and it is based on prevention of waste generation directly at its source. It means that it is focused on prevention of waste generation rather than waste disposal. This approach has various names – cleaner production (it is the most often used expression in my country), cleaner technology, clean technology, pollution prevention, waste reduction, waste minimization, waste elimination, etc.
Cleaner Production as a tool means the implementation of pollution prevention in particular project. The approach of Cleaner Production faced the basic change in a view on pollution. From the conventional approach point of view the pollution is understood as a necessary evil, some production tax, which has to be paid. On the other hand material, which was not transformed into product, represents waste and expence in raw material, and also is expensive to dispose of.
From Cleaner Production point of view we consider solid waste, emission and waste water, thus all solid, liquid and gaseous matters which are emitting into air, discharging into water or polluting soil, noise and waste heat and other forms of waste energy (e.g. pressure air, etc.).
The goal of Cleaner Production is prevention of waste generation by better, more effective utilization of input material and energy. The following will result in minimal economical effect in reducing operational costs, which consequently improves company effectiveness and competition.
According to official UNEP definition:
Cleaner Production – is the continuous application of an integrated preventive environmental strategy to process, products and services with the goal to increase efficiency and reduce the risk not only to humans but to the environment as well.
In production processes, the Cleaner Production is focused on more effective resource and energy utilization, elimination of toxic and hazardous materials and waste minimization and pollution prevention at its source.
In products (products and services), the strategy of Cleaner Production is focused on reduction of negative environmental impacts during their life cycle, from cradle to grave.
