Cleaner production

In terms of the conventional approach is pollution understood as a necessary harm, a sort of tax on the production, which must be paid. In contrast, in the cleaner production approach each waste represents dearly purchased raw materials and energies that have not been converted to a product and which is necessary to disposed with additional costs.

The concept of cleaner production was developed during the preparation of the Rio Summit as a program of UNEP (United Nations Environment Programme) and UNIDO (United Nations Industrial Development Organization). Currently we can find a cleaner production under different names: Cleaner Production - Energy Efficiency (CPEE), Efficiency and Productivity, Cleaner Technology, Clean Technology, etc.

What is cleaner production?

Cleaner production is an initiative prevention of environmental protection specific for each organization. It is designed to minimize waste and emissions and to maximize product performance.

According to the official UNEP definition: Cleaner Production is the continuous application of an integrated environmental strategy to processes, products and services to increase efficiency and

Based on the analysis of the material and energy flow of the company the cleaner production process, through strategies of resource reduction, identifies opportunities to minimize waste and emissions from all industrial processes. Improved organization and technologies offer better choices in the use of raw materials and energy to avoid production of waste, waste water and air emissions, and also waste heat and noise. This in turn has considerable economic effect, which increases efficiency and thus competitiveness of company.

For production processes, cleaner production includes conserving raw materials and energy, eliminating toxic raw materials, and reducing the quantity and toxicity of all emissions and waste before they leave the process.

For products (goods and services), the strategy focuses on reducing impacts along the entire life cycle of the product, from raw material extraction to the ultimate disposal of the product.
